The Solution

Converting discarded food
into premium animal nutrition

BioFeed processes urban post-consumer food waste into highly nutritious, shelf-stable feed pellets suitable for poultry, aquaculture, and livestock — closing the nutrient loop.

Lower Feed Costs
Significantly cheaper to produce than conventional corn or soy-based animal feed, reducing farmer input costs. Feed accounts for 80% of total livestock production expenses.
Nutritionally Promising
Pilot-scale testing shows good protein (7.7 g/ml Batch 1) and carbohydrate profiles. We're actively refining nutrient supplementation to meet full industry benchmarks.
Shelf Stable
Moisture reduced through a structured drying process, using jaggery as a natural preservative and binding agent — achieving optimal 10% moisture content.
Eco-Friendly
Requires 1.8 MJ/kg less energy to produce per kg than traditional corn-based feed, while diverting waste from methane-emitting landfills.

BioFeed pellets — formulated from urban post-consumer food waste

Methodology

How BioFeed Is Made

A four-stage process transforms diverse urban food waste into standardized, commercial-grade animal feed pellets.

01
🏗️
Collection & Sorting
Post-consumer food waste is gathered from local urban sources — hostels, restaurants, and cafeterias — and sorted by type to ensure consistent quality input. Debris is removed prior to processing.
02
🌡️
Processing & Drying
Waste is cleaned, dried in a hot air oven at 50–80°C to reduce moisture content to 10%, then ground into a uniform powder. This prevents microbial growth and extends shelf life significantly.
03
💧
Formulation
The powdered waste is blended with jaggery (a natural preservative and binding agent), ginger as a natural antibiotic, and powdered eggshells as a calcium source — creating a balanced feed mixture.
04
🌿
Pelletisation & Curing
The mixture is shaped into uniform feed pellets in sizes of 2–5mm suited for different animals, then undergoes a final drying stage to achieve a stable, shelf-ready product.

Achieved — Core Nutrition
Pilot batches demonstrate good protein and carbohydrate content suitable as a base animal feed ingredient across poultry, aquaculture, and livestock categories.
🏗️
In Progress — Micronutrient Optimization
We are actively working to optimize essential mineral supplementation (Ca, Mg, Fe, Cu, Zn). Formulations are being refined to meet the full nutrient spectrum required for commercial animal feed certification.
📈
Planned — Animal Trial Studies
Full animal trial validation — measuring growth rate, feed conversion ratio, and health outcomes — is planned as the next phase, requiring scale-up support and partnerships.

A Business Model Built on Impact

BioFeed creates a true circular economy — converting a costly urban waste stream into a valuable commodity. It provides an affordable alternative for farmers while tackling the global methane crisis caused by landfill food decay.
